Mumbai, Sep 18: Kiran Rao’s celebrated film “Laapataa Ladies” is all set to make its Japanese debut on October 4. Rao, an ardent admirer of Japanese cinema, expressed her excitement over this “full circle moment.” She shared, “I’m thrilled that ‘Laapataa Ladies’ is releasing in Japan. This feels like a full circle moment as I’ve always had a deep interest in Japanese culture. I hope the film’s emotional essence resonates with Japanese audiences just as it did back home.”
Rao sees this international release as a “significant milestone” for the film, emphasizing how cinema can transcend cultural barriers through shared narratives and emotions. “Laapataa Ladies” premiered in India in March 2024, captivating audiences for over 100 days in theaters before continuing to receive love and appreciation on OTT platforms. The film, a slice-of-life comedy, revolves around the misadventures of two young brides who get separated on a train, each with different grooms, leading to a series of mistaken identities and laugh-out-loud moments.
The movie boasts an impressive cast, including Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, and Ravi Kishan. Presented by Jio Studios, “Laapataa Ladies” is directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, and Jyoti Deshpande. It is a creation of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami.
