Fiery Rebuke: Hardeep Singh Puri’s Bold Comparisons of Rahul Gandhi to Jinnah from US
Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, currently on a tour of the United States, has leveled sharp criticism against Rahul Gandhi, accusing the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha of harboring a mindset reminiscent of Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Puri claims that Gandhi desires to see India “bleed” and fragment. These comments came in response to Gandhi’s remarks made during a recent event in Virginia.
During his three-day visit, Rahul Gandhi stated that the struggle in India transcends politics, pointing out issues faced by religious minorities. He questioned whether a Sikh would continue to enjoy religious freedoms, such as wearing a turban or a kada, and emphasized that this was a broader issue affecting all religions in India.
Puri retorted that Gandhi’s narrative was unfounded and misleading. He asserted that when Gandhi’s party was in power, it did not support Sikh interests and created problems instead. Puri compared Gandhi’s stance to Jinnah’s approach, suggesting it threatened the integrity of India by promoting division.
Highlighting the resilient nature of India’s 5,000-year-old culture and civilization, Puri noted that attempts to fracture the nation would be futile. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Nation First” ideology and urged a focus on constructive dialogue to resolve differences within democracy.
Puri further expressed concern over Gandhi’s comments, describing them as part of a sinister effort to cultivate a divisive narrative and instill fear and insecurity among people. He emphasized his personal experience as a turban-wearing Sikh, stressing that the comments reflect a deeper, more strategic attempt to create societal rifts rather than simple ignorance.
This exchange follows remarks by Khalistani supporter Pannun, who endorsed Gandhi’s statements, further intensifying the debate on religious freedoms and national unity.
