Shocking Resignation: Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Steps Down – AAP Leader Saurabh Bharadwaj Reveals Delhi’s Eager Anticipation for Elections
Delhi Minister and Aam Admi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj addressed the media on Monday, asserting that the capital’s residents are eager for the upcoming assembly elections, scheduled for February 2025, to re-elect Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister. Bharadwaj’s statements came following Kejriwal’s dramatic announcement that he would resign in two days and remain out of the CM chair until he received a “certificate of honesty” from Delhiites.
Highlighting the unprecedented nature of the situation, Bharadwaj noted that this would be the first time in the nation’s history a sitting Chief Minister has voluntarily sought re-election amid extensive efforts by central agencies like the ED, CBI, and Income Tax to tarnish his reputation.
Despite these adversities, Bharadwaj maintained that Delhi’s populace continues to trust both Kejriwal and the AAP. “The people of Delhi are so eager that the elections should be held, and they will vote and make Arvind Kejriwal the Chief Minister again,” he stated.
In a pointed challenge to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bharadwaj called for a level playing field: “If BJP has the confidence to overthrow Arvind Kejriwal, then come onto the field to fight the elections.”
When questioned about the next potential CM candidate, Bharadwaj demurred, stating, “We have the same information as you. It’s not my job to guess. I am a stakeholder in the process.”
Bharadwaj detailed the resignation procedure, explaining that after Kejriwal’s resignation is accepted, a legislative party meeting will be convened to elect a new leader. The chosen leader will then present their claim to the President through the Lieutenant Governor, and, with full MLA support, the process should be completed within a week.
This unfolding political drama sets the stage for a significant electoral battle in Delhi, with AAP confident of retaining its stronghold amidst challenges.
