Traffic Chaos Grips Guwahati as 1.5 Lakh Vehicles Flood City for Exams
GUWAHATI: The traffic situation in Guwahati descended into chaos on Sunday, September 14, as all entry and exit routes were choked with vehicles. The gridlock was attributed to the Grade 3 recruitment exams held at various centers across the city, according to traffic police DCP. A staggering 1.50 lakh additional vehicles poured into the city, exacerbating the congestion.
Commuters faced significant delays, with one individual heading to Sonapur to visit a patient reporting an hour-long wait near Khanapara. “It’s not the first time traffic has jammed in Guwahati, but today’s situation near Khanapara is particularly exasperating,” the frustrated commuter told GPlus.
Another commuter who brought his daughter for the exams lamented the government’s apparent lack of planning. “If the government cannot manage traffic, they should not conduct exams on such a large scale,” he remarked.
Many others echoed similar sentiments, criticizing the authorities for inadequate preparation and poor traffic management.
Reflecting on the ordeal, the Guwahati traffic DCP commented, “It cannot be helped as around 1.50 lakh additional vehicles came to Guwahati today for exams.”
It’s worth noting that any event in Guwahati, especially those organized by the government, often results in severe traffic disruptions, causing great inconvenience to the residents and visitors.
