Thrilling Victory: Jharkhand and Odisha Shine Bright in Junior Men’s National Hockey Championship Quarterfinals
Hockey Jharkhand and the Hockey Association of Odisha have secured spots in the quarterfinals of the 14th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship following decisive victories on Sunday.
Hockey Jharkhand put on a stellar show, dismantling Hockey Gujarat with a staggering 27-0 win. Adisan Minj was the standout performer, netting six goals. Following close behind, Ghuran Lohra scored five times, complemented by four goals each from Roshan Ekka and Deepak Soreng. Baraik Kamal Chik contributed a hat-trick, while Sukhnath Guria added a brace. Abhishek Tigga, Sumit Barwa, and Mangra Dohdray also made their mark on the scoresheet.
In an equally critical match, the Hockey Association of Odisha triumphed over Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey with a 5-2 win. Karan Lakra emerged as the hero with two goals, while captain Jasman Munda, Abhishek Topno, and Deepak Pradhan each scored once. For the opposing team, Pradip Mandal and Wislon Xaxa found the back of the net.
Earlier in the day, Hockey Jammu & Kashmir defeated Hockey Rajasthan 6-2. Captain Arun Preet Singh and Zahid Shabir scored twice each, supported by goals from Jatveer Singh and Jagmeet Singh. For Rajasthan, Anurag Suthar and Kunal Koundal were the scorers.
Meanwhile, Assam Hockey and Hockey Arunachal battled to a 2-2 draw. Parkil Alam and Hemant Borthakur scored for Assam, and Abhishek Yadav and Piyush Singh responded for Arunachal.
In the final match of the day, the Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu overwhelmed Hockey Bengal with a 6-0 victory. Bijay Kujur led the offensive with a hat-trick, while captain Rohit Kujur, Vivek Kumar Singh, and Md Sakib Ali also chipped in with goals.
