Exciting Expansion: SHRI’s Manipur Initiative to Revolutionize Health Services in Tripura
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha announced that Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI) from Manipur is interested in establishing a branch in the state. This announcement was made during the launch of the STAR-NCD project at Karl Landsteiner Auditorium, AGMC, and GB Pant Hospital in Agartala.
Highlighting the state government’s commitment to advancing health services, Saha, who also serves as the state health minister, emphasized that improving and modernizing health services is a top priority. He noted that the state health department is engaged in numerous projects to expand healthcare infrastructure.
The STAR-NCD (Strengthening the Technical and Analytical Resources for Non-Communicable Diseases) project, an initiative under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), aims to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of non-communicable diseases through better ambulatory care services. Saha pointed out that Tripura has a significant number of patients suffering from such diseases. He stated that increased screening and timely treatment through this project would help in better assessing the prevalence and management of non-communicable diseases, thereby boosting public confidence.
Tripura is one of four locations where the STAR-NCD project is being launched, and the health department has been preparing for this initiative over the past six months. Saha reiterated that health and education remain key priorities for the state. Citing national data, he mentioned that approximately 62% of deaths are due to conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and coronary heart disease, with Tripura being no exception.
Saha proudly asserted that health services in Tripura are on par with other states in India, pointing out that state doctors now perform many complex surgeries, reducing the need for patient referrals to other states. He also mentioned that the reliable law and order situation in Tripura is attracting investments. Concluding his address, Saha announced that two more patients are prepared for kidney transplants, and assured that the state will continue to employ advanced technology for its citizens’ benefit.
