A man with a history of over 50 theft cases, Sabu aka Spider Sabu, 53, and his aide Ajith, 30, were arrested by a special squad led by Perumbavoor Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), from Angamaly on September 11. The duo was apprehended while allegedly planning another theft. They are believed to be behind a burglary on August 30 within the Kunnathunadu police station limits, where ₹25,000, jewellery, smartwatches, a pen camera, and a tab were stolen from a house while the family was away. Sabu, known for scouting potential targets by day and striking at night, reportedly met Ajith in jail last year. After their release in March, they allegedly resumed their criminal activities. The thieves had already sold a stolen ring in Ernakulam. Sabu has theft cases spanning across Kozhikode, Wayanad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Alappuzha, and Kottayam; he’s also accused of a murder in Kozhikode in 2001. The arrest was executed by a team led by ASP Mohit Rawat and included inspector A.L. Abhilash along with other sub-inspectors and senior civil police officers.
