Epic Sohra Half Marathon: Witness Thrilling Competition Among Ethiopian, Kenyan, and Bangladeshi Runners!
Third Edition of Sohra International Half Marathon to be Held on September 21, 2024
Guwahati: The eagerly anticipated third edition of the Sohra International Half Marathon is set to take place on September 21, 2024, in Cherrapunjee, Meghalaya. Over 7,700 runners from around the globe, including athletes from Ethiopia, Kenya, and Bangladesh, are expected to participate in this landmark event.
Recognized by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), the marathon is co-organized by the Meghalaya Athletics Association and the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Meghalaya.
Director of Sports and Youth Affairs, Dikki D. Shira, confirmed that sufficient funds have been allocated for the event and that the organizing committees have been mobilized to ensure its success. "Everything is in place, and all the sub-committees are already functioning. We are confident the event will be a grand success," Shira stated.
MSOA President, John F. Kharshiing, highlighted that the marathon is not just a race but a celebration of health and fitness in the hill state. Several race categories have been announced: 21km elite open (above 18 years), 21km open (above 18 years), 10km open (40 to 50 years), 10km open (50 to 60 years), 10km veteran (above 60 years), and a 5km run for fun.
The routes are set: the 21k will start from Laitsohpliah, the 10k from Wah Kba, and the 5k from Cherrapunjee Presbyterian School. The deadline for registration is September 10.
This year’s edition has seen a surge in participation, with 7,736 runners registered so far—a testament to the marathon’s growing appeal and significance.
