Urgent: Sri Lanka National Election Commission Summons Presidential Candidates for Crucial Discussion
In Sri Lanka, the National Election Commission convened a meeting with all presidential candidates and their representatives today to discuss activities related to the forthcoming presidential election. The session, chaired by R.M.A.L. Ratnayake, focused on campaign regulations and procedures.
A pivotal topic was the restrictions on door-to-door campaigning. Ratnayake made it clear that no more than five individuals are allowed to distribute election pamphlets together. Exceeding this number will be considered illegal, and police are mandated to enforce this regulation rigorously.
Additionally, the Election Commission plans a separate meeting this afternoon with election monitoring organizations to ensure transparency and adherence to electoral laws.
The 2024 Presidential Election is scheduled for September 21.
