Shocking: Kim Jong-Un Orders Brutal Execution of 30 Officials Over Devastating Flood Damage in North Korea
North Korea’s supreme leader, Kim Jong Un, has allegedly ordered the execution of 20-30 government officials held responsible for the catastrophic floods that resulted in thousands of deaths over the summer. South Korea’s Chosun TV reported on Tuesday that provincial governors were among those executed last month for “failing to prevent flooding.” A government official cited in the report mentioned that the executions took place simultaneously late last month, with allegations targeting Chagang Province Party Secretary Kang Bong-hoon also being investigated.
Additionally, several officials faced charges of corruption and dereliction of duty. A former North Korean diplomat noted that despite the recent flood crisis, some officials were dismissed for social security reasons, and the fear of further executions has left many in the administration anxious.
The North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) confirmed that Kim Jong Un had instructed authorities to “strictly punish” the officials after severe floods devastated Chagang Province, near the border with China, in July. However, the specifics of such reports are challenging to verify due to North Korea’s stringent secrecy.
In July, North Korea’s state media had reported heavy rains in the northwestern region, which submerged thousands of houses, destroyed vast farmland, and displaced numerous residents, forcing them to live in makeshift tents. Up to 4,000 fatalities were linked to the floods, exacerbated by poor drainage, deforestation, and aging infrastructure.
In a related development, a Russian company based in Komsomolsk-on-Amur has received clearance to import North Korean beer, as reported by Russian media on Wednesday, indicating strengthening ties between Moscow and Pyongyang.
These developments underscore the ongoing crisis management challenges within North Korea and the political repercussions faced by its officials amidst mounting natural disasters.
