Frustration Mounts: Payment Delays Devastate Private Hospitals in Shillong
Payment Delay Under Megha Health Insurance Scheme Strains Private Hospitals in Shillong
Shillong: Private hospitals in Shillong are grappling with financial strain following a payment delay of Rs 48 crore under the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), with Rs 18 crore tied up due to technical glitches. Despite repeated appeals to the National Health Authority (NHA), the issue remains unresolved.
The Health Department has acknowledged the problem, attributing it to software and technical issues. On September 2, representatives from seven private hospitals attended a meeting to discuss their concerns. These hospitals have shown reluctance to sign new agreements until dues are cleared.
The department has urged these hospitals to continue providing uninterrupted services to patients while efforts are being made to process offline payments. To escalate the matter, the CEO of MHIS is scheduled to visit the NHA office in New Delhi on September 5.
Significant progress has been made under the MHIS, with over 1,53,445 claims valued at Rs 216 crore filed between September 2023 and August 2024. However, the ongoing payment delay is creating financial constraints for private hospitals, impacting patient care.
The Health Department is actively working to resolve these issues to ensure continuous service delivery under the MHIS, as per the latest reports.
