Five men have been charged with the alleged rape of a 34-year-old woman in Indore district, Madhya Pradesh, and for forcing her to dance naked, police revealed on Tuesday. Despite the charges, no arrests have been made. The First Information Report (FIR) was filed 19 days after the Madhya Pradesh High Court instructed police to address the woman’s complaint within 90 days, following her allegations of police inaction.
The victim lodged the complaint at Kanadia police station, reporting that on June 11, she was forcibly taken to a godown where the accused raped her and subjected her to unnatural sex after watching videos on TV. Additionally, she was allegedly beaten with a belt and coerced to dance naked for 30 minutes. The police registered the case late Monday night under relevant Indian Penal Code sections.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhinay Vishwakarma confirmed the ongoing investigation and assured that legal steps would be taken based on the evidence. The delay in registering the FIR has been attributed to political pressure by state Congress spokesperson Neelabh Shukla, who claimed that one accused has connections with the ruling BJP.
State BJP spokesperson Narendra Saluja refuted the allegations, asserting that the victim would receive justice under the BJP government and disclosed that the involved parties had lodged complaints against each other.
