Guwahati: In a significant move to enhance the safety of school children, the Education Department in Meghalaya has issued a new directive mandating all schools to display the seating capacity on vehicles used to transport students.
This directive aligns with the guidelines set forth by the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety, aiming to enforce stricter monitoring and prevent overloading of school transport vehicles.
Under the new order, all school buses and three-wheelers are required to prominently display their carrying capacity both inside and outside the vehicle. This measure is intended to facilitate easy monitoring and ensure that these vehicles do not exceed their specified limits.
