Outrage Erupts: Senapati District Students Association Condemns Violent Kuki Rally in Manipur’s Naga Village
The Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) has vehemently condemned an alleged physical altercation initiated by participants of a Kuki rally against SDSA leaders and volunteers. This incident, which occurred in Tumnaopokpi Naga village, reportedly took place despite the presence of Central and State Security personnel.
The SDSA has raised serious concerns regarding the motives behind the rally organized by the Kuki Students’ Organisation Sadar Hills (KSO-SH), accusing them of intentionally provoking the Southern Nagas. This accusation stems from KSO-SH’s decision to hold the rally in a Naga-inhabited area despite previous requests to halt such activities. Rally participants were allegedly heard chanting slogans demanding a separate Kukiland, which the SDSA deems a blatant provocation.
The SDSA has reinforced its opposition to the previous government’s decision to carve out Southern Senapati and Naga areas into Kangpokpi District, asserting that this is not recognized. They support the United Naga Council’s (UNC) demand to reverse these new district creations.
The SDSA maintains that any repercussions of the Tumnaopokpi incident should be attributed to KSO-SH, absolving themselves of any responsibility. This incident underscores ongoing tensions and highlights the SDSA’s steadfast position against the perceived division of Naga territories.
