Tragic Loss in Ganderbal: Three Trekkers Killed, Heartbreaking Discovery of One Body
NATIONAL News Alert: Three Trekkers Dead in J&K’s Ganderbal Due to Adverse Weather
Srinagar, Aug 30: Three trekkers have reportedly lost their lives in J&K’s Ganderbal district amid severe weather conditions, police confirmed on Friday. The group, embarking on the Great Lakes expedition in Gangabal-Satsar lakes, went astray in the alpine heights.
The deceased include one trekker from Srinagar, one from Delhi, and a shepherd guide. Police sources revealed that the body of the Delhi trekker, identified as Rohit Sayal, 44, son of Jatinder Paul, was recovered at Naranag. The whereabouts of the other two individuals remain unknown, with search operations ongoing.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police from Kangan town has taken custody of Sayal’s body for medico-legal formalities. Efforts continue to locate the bodies of the other two trekkers presumed dead in this tragic incident.
J&K has been facing extremely adverse weather over the past three days, with incessant rains in both the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region. The heavy rainfall has significantly raised water levels in almost all major and minor rivers, prompting authorities to issue advisories for residents in low-lying areas to exercise caution.
Compounding the situation, snowfall in the higher reaches of the Valley has worsened living conditions for shepherds, trekkers, and others residing in these altitudes.
This incident underscores the severe and unpredictable nature of the region’s weather, emphasizing the need for thorough preparation and vigilance for those undertaking high-altitude expeditions.
