Ryan Reynolds Champions Stunt Performers by Powerfully Advocating for an Oscars Award Category | MorungExpress
Los Angeles, August 29 (IANS): Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds, currently riding high on the success of his latest superhero flick, ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ has called for greater recognition of stunt performers at the Oscars. Taking to Instagram, Reynolds shared behind-the-scenes images from the film, highlighting the vital contributions of the stunt team.
In a heartfelt post, Reynolds penned a note expressing his admiration for the stunt professionals, saying, “Stunt work doesn’t have a category at The Oscars and I hope that’ll change someday. So many films SMASHED it this year… Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd, and Chaplin were stunt performers as well as filmmakers. Telling stories with their entire bodies. The #DeadpoolAndWolverine stunt team over-delivered.”
Reynolds specifically praised many members of the team, including Alex Kyshkovych, his long-time collaborator and fight coordinator, jokingly writing, “I’d take a sledgehammer to the face for Alex. Or rather, I’d ask Alex to take a sledgehammer to the face for Alex.”
He also commended George Cottle, the second unit director/supervising stunt coordinator, for his world-class skills that have enhanced films like ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. Reynolds humorously noted, “I’d ask Alex to take a rusty fork to the eye for George.”
Additionally, Reynolds lauded Hugh Jackman and his stunt double, Daniel Stevens, acknowledging Stevens’ role in handling the "truly dangerous stuff," referring humorously to the challenges of "Wolverining."
Reynolds ended his note with a witty comment, thanking Listersbox for the new Wolverine gear featured in the film and urged fans to encourage the Academy to recognize the exceptional work of stunt teams.
In his final appeal, Reynolds emphasized the importance of spotlighting these unsung heroes, reiterating that their efforts significantly elevate the cinematic experience.
