UDP Celebrates Unwavering Loyalty: MLAs Stand Strong Against Poaching Tactics
SHILLONG, Aug 25: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has firmly dismissed concerns about the potential poaching of its MLAs and MDCs by the National People’s Party (NPP), asserting its strong unity and collective strength. "Why should we be worried? We are collectively very strong," said Jemino Mawthoh, UDP General Secretary, emphasizing the party’s solid team dynamics and experienced leadership.
Mawthoh highlighted the UDP’s seasoned ministers and MLAs, some of whom have served multiple terms, illustrating the party’s stability. "When you work together as a party and are solid, the question of poaching does not arise," he added. The UDP, rather than focusing on other parties, aims to attract new members to bolster its own ranks and contribute positively to governance and development.
The UDP emphasizes its commitment to stability and constructive involvement in Meghalaya’s progress. Mawthoh reaffirmed the party’s role in ensuring a stable government and addressing issues as they arise to implement necessary corrective measures.
In preparation for the upcoming elections to the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), the UDP has instructed its members to begin identifying potential candidates. "Our state election committee has directed all districts and circles to activate the party at the grassroots level and identify candidates," Mawthoh revealed, indicating that groundwork is already underway in various blocks.
Regarding a potential alliance for the MDC polls, Mawthoh mentioned consultations with the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) under the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) banner. "We have discussed once but will meet again to strategize," he mentioned, signaling ongoing collaboration.
The UDP previously led the Executive Committee in the KHADC before being ousted by the NPP-Congress alliance. The party remains focused on its goals, maintaining robust internal cohesion and a forward-looking approach to strengthening its electoral presence.
