Srinath Rajendran’s Thrilling Bollywood Debut: Captivating Film on Conman Dhani Ram Mittal
Malayalam filmmaker Srinath Rajendran, renowned for his gripping thrillers, is poised to enter Bollywood with a biographical drama inspired by India’s infamous conman, Dhani Ram Mittal. The untitled project, based on the book MoneyRam by Preeti Aggarwal and Chetan Unniyal, will chronicle Mittal’s extraordinary life as a master forger, whose audacious criminal exploits spanned 45 years, until his death in April 2024.
Rajendran has previously garnered critical acclaim and commercial success for films such as Kurup (2021), starring Dulquer Salmaan, which depicted the true story of Sukumara Kurup, a notorious fugitive. Known for his fascination with real-life crime stories, Rajendran is excited to bring Mittal’s intriguing tale to the Hindi film industry. He shared his enthusiasm, stating, "Cinema today transcends borders and languages. I am thrilled to embark on this new journey in Hindi cinema. The screenplay is currently in development with plans to begin filming in early 2025. Produced by Insomnia Media and Content Services Limited, the film will be shot in Hindi and released in multiple languages, including Malayalam and Telugu, to reach a wide audience. Although the casting and other specifics are still under wraps, the project promises to be a riveting addition to Rajendran’s oeuvre and a notable entry in Bollywood’s slate of biographical dramas.
Rajendran’s transition to Bollywood follows the success of Kurup, which became one of the top-grossing Malayalam films and even had its trailer showcased on the Burj Khalifa.
