PM Modi on Justice: Unveiling the Battle Simplicity vs. Process Complexity
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of the Rajasthan High Court on Sunday, emphasizing that while justice is inherently simple, complex processes often make it difficult. He highlighted the necessity for simple, easy, and accessible justice for everyone and stressed the importance of innovation and modernization in achieving this goal.
Modi echoed his Independence Day call for a secular civil code, noting that the judiciary has long supported this idea. He asserted the collective responsibility to simplify justice and commended the country for taking significant steps in this direction. His government has abolished numerous colonial-era laws deemed irrelevant and has replaced the Indian Penal Code with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita to break free from a colonial mindset.
Additionally, Modi underscored India’s growth as the world’s fifth-largest economy, positioning modernization and innovation as crucial to providing “Justice for All.” Technological advancements have played a significant role in this transformation, with over 18,000 courses computerised and more than 3,000 court complexes and 1,200 jails connected via video conferencing.
The Prime Minister’s remarks encapsulate a vision for a more streamlined and technologically advanced judicial system capable of delivering justice efficiently to all citizens.
