Tripura Flood Situation Worsens: Death Toll Rises to 10, Thousands Affected
AGARTALA: The flood crisis in Tripura has intensified, with the death toll now reaching 10. The catastrophic floods have affected over 34,000 residents, who have sought refuge in relief camps set up by the state government.
On Wednesday, floodwaters breached the residence of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, prompting an emergency evacuation by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) personnel. In response to the escalating crisis, Chief Minister Saha contacted Union Home Minister Amit Shah to inform him about the dire situation and requested additional NDRF troops for ongoing flood relief operations.
The Chief Minister also made a ground visit to some of the worst-hit areas in Agartala, where he interacted with flood-affected individuals in the relief camps. Reports indicate that the Tripura government has established a total of 331 relief camps, housing 34,100 people from 6,259 families.
In light of the continued heavy rainfall, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Tripura West, Khowai, and Sepahijala districts, warning of further severe weather conditions.
