Tripura to Host First North East Council Plenary Meeting in Agartala
AGARTALA: Tripura is set to make history by hosting its first North East Council (NEC) plenary meeting in Agartala, announced Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday. The two-day event, scheduled for August 31 and September 1, will feature participation from Union Home Minister Amit Shah, DoNER Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, and the chief ministers and governors of Northeastern states.
Expressing his pride, Chief Minister Saha highlighted the significance of hosting the NEC meeting in Tripura for the first time, noting that previous sessions were typically held in Shillong, Assam. "Preparations are in full swing to ensure the smooth execution of the event," Saha added.
The plenary meeting is expected to address several critical issues such as the development of the northeastern region, the India-Bangladesh border, and the progress of various ongoing developmental projects.
Formed under the North-Eastern Council Act of 1971, the NEC serves as a regional planning and advisory body for the eight northeastern states, including Sikkim. Its headquarters is located in Shillong.
This event represents a significant opportunity for Tripura to contribute to regional planning and development discussions and showcase its potential as a venue for high-profile governmental meetings.
