Cognizant Clarifies Salary Offers Amid Social Media Backlash

IT giant Cognizant has addressed social media criticism regarding its salary structure for fresh graduates. Contrary to reports of a Rs 2.52 lakh annual salary for freshers, the company clarified that this figure pertains to non-engineering undergraduate degree holders. In contrast, fresh engineering graduates are offered a competitive annual compensation ranging from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 12 lakh.

Surya Gummadi, EVP and President of Cognizant Americas, emphasized that the Rs 2.52 lakh salary applies solely to candidates with a three-year non-engineering degree. Cognizant hires fresh engineers and non-engineering/IT graduates for a variety of roles, investing significantly in skills development and IT training for non-engineering hires.

Gummadi, who started his career at Cognizant and now leads its Americas operations, highlighted the company’s commitment to competitive compensation and continuous upskilling. Cognizant spends approximately Rs 2 to 3 lakhs per associate annually for training in advanced technologies. The organization has also provided four salary increments to its employees over the past three years.

With over 70% of its 336,000-strong global workforce based in India, Cognizant has opened new centers in Bhubaneshwar and Indore and expanded operations in Hyderabad to better serve its Indian talent pool. The company invests in advanced digital technologies training, higher education, and leadership development programs to empower its employees and maintain its competitive edge in the IT sector.
