Shocking Sabotage: Sabarmati Express Derailed by Dangerous Track Obstruction, Alleges Vaishnaw | India News
Sabarmati Express Derails Near Kanpur; No Injuries Reported
Kanpur, Aug 17, 2024 – The Sabarmati Express train, traveling from Varanasi to Amdavad, derailed near Govindpuri station in Kanpur early Saturday morning. The derailment occurred at 2:35 AM after the train’s engine struck an object placed on the track, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The accident affected twenty coaches of the passenger train, but fortunately, no injuries or fatalities have been reported. "Rescue and relief operations at the site are underway," officials confirmed.
Preliminary investigations indicate that miscreants or anti-social elements may have been involved, as foreign material was found near the 16th coach. "The engine’s cattle guard was significantly damaged, suggesting it hit a substantial object," one official noted. Another added that a Patna-Indore train had passed through the same track smoothly just over an hour earlier, at 1:20 AM.
IB and Uttar Pradesh police are currently investigating the incident, safeguarding potential evidence. Minister Vaishnaw assured that the train’s passengers and staff were unharmed, and alternative transportation has been arranged to ensure passengers can continue their journey.
Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar stated that buses and other transport options were promptly provided, and all passengers have been safely evacuated from the site. Due to the derailment, seven trains have been canceled, and three have been diverted.
The incident underscores the need for increased vigilance and security on railway tracks to prevent such occurrences in the future.
