Chief Minister Manik Saha Urges Regular Blood Donation Camps to Meet Healthcare Demands
Agartala, 11th August 2024: Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha underscored the importance of organizing regular blood donation camps to ensure sufficient blood supplies for healthcare facilities. Speaking at an event commemorating the death anniversary of revolutionary Khudiram Bose, held at the Biblabi Khudiram Social Organization, Dr. Saha highlighted that consistent blood donations are critical for maintaining adequately stocked blood banks.
The Chief Minister cited recent shortages faced by blood banks during election periods, noting that Tripura has 14 blood banks—12 government-run and two private. Emphasizing the life-saving impact of blood donations, Dr. Saha remarked, “One unit of blood can save three to four comatose patients."
Furthermore, he discussed the state’s initiatives to enhance healthcare infrastructure. The Agartala Government Medical College has increased its student capacity from 100 to 150 seats, and a new dental college has been inaugurated, with plans for another medical college on the horizon. Dr. Saha also mentioned ongoing efforts to strengthen district hospitals, including establishing trauma centers and developing Community Health Centers. Notably, Tripura now offers free kidney transplants.
Other dignitaries in attendance included the Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, MLA Dipak Majumdar, and additional officials. Post-inauguration, Dr. Saha and other dignitaries visited the blood donation camp, extending their support and encouragement to the donors.
By advocating for regular blood donation camps and enhancing medical facilities, Dr. Manik Saha aims to bolster the healthcare system in Tripura, ensuring it is well-equipped to meet the ever-growing demands for medical services.
