Urgent Alert: Mohali Residents Take Bold Stand to Curb Brawls and Ban Smoking with New Warning Boards

Amid a rise in incidents involving brawls over trivial issues, water shortages, and parking disputes in Mohali, local residents have implemented new restrictions for paying guest houses. According to an India Today report, the youth committee in Jandpur village, near Kharar, has passed a resolution targeting disruptive behaviors affecting the community.

This resolution mandates action against smoking, wearing revealing clothing, and staying on rent without proper verification. Concerns arose when local residents observed some paying guests causing disturbances late at night and engaging in arguments, which they felt threatened the village’s safety and peace. Warning boards have been erected to inform people of these new rules.

The committee has also warned against drug sales, loitering on roads post-11 pm, and boys or girls roaming late at night. Paying guest house owners are instructed to verify their tenants thoroughly. Additionally, throwing garbage along roads and streets is prohibited, and parking vehicles outside others’ homes is banned.

A local resident emphasized that the community is united in enforcing these rules, stating, “As a village, we’ve made a collective decision to inform outsiders that if they want to stay, they must follow the rules. Even societies have rules and guards. After verification, those with a good record will stay, while those with a criminal record will have to leave. There are around 500 immigrant workers here, but if anyone — Punjabi or non-Punjabi — wants to create chaos, they will all have to abide by the rules,” as quoted by India Today.

These measures aim to ensure a peaceful coexistence and maintain order within the village, addressing the concerns raised by the local populace.
