Stunning Turnaround: Harris Surges Past Trump on Economy in Eye-Opening CNBC Survey
A recent CNBC and Generation Lab survey reveals that younger Americans do not attribute the perceived worsening of the U.S. economy to Vice President Kamala Harris. Despite 69% of respondents aged 18-34 believing the economy is deteriorating under President Joe Biden, 41% see Harris as the most capable candidate to improve it, narrowly edging out Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump, who garnered 40%.
This outcome represents a significant shift since May, reflecting increased support for Harris. If the election were held today, she would lead Trump by 12 points among younger voters, a notable jump from a previous tie between Trump and Biden.
Economic concerns weigh heavily on young voters, with 66% prioritizing issues related to the economy and cost of living. However, access to abortion and gun control also play significant roles in their voting considerations.
Harris faces challenges despite her lead. Younger voters’ turnout will be crucial, and any economic downturns could sway opinions back toward Trump, particularly as younger voters’ sentiments are critical for Democratic success. The survey, conducted among 1,043 adults aged 18-34, has a margin of error of 3.0%.
