Air India and Vistara Secure CAR 145 Approval for Integrated Line Maintenance Operations

In a strategic move towards operational synergy, Air India and Vistara have received CAR 145 approval from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to integrate their aircraft line maintenance operations. According to an official release, this integration marks a pivotal milestone, unifying the maintenance resources of both airlines under Air India’s facilities.
This merger will enhance Air India’s technical capabilities by optimizing processes, resources, and systems, ensuring greater self-reliance in fleet maintenance and implementing industry-leading practices across all MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) operations. The initiative aims to reduce aircraft turnaround times, thereby bolstering on-time performance.
Air India currently manages in-house line maintenance at 12 stations across India. The integration will further strengthen these capabilities, creating a streamlined, self-reliant maintenance operation that encompasses key technical activities for both aircraft and their components.
The collaboration will result in core line maintenance work being centrally managed, embracing best industry practices and expanding the overall capacity of the engineering resources. The combined technical teams will operate under a unified system, enhancing coordination and efficiency.
Enhanced synergy will also ensure real-time availability of records, facilitating rapid diagnosis and troubleshooting of technical issues. The merger is expected to create economies of scale in resource mobilization, augment trained manpower, and improve maintenance services for the fleet, including Air India Express, which has previously been serviced by Vistara.
