Dynamic Leadership Begins: Inspirational Lt Gen Abhijit Pendharkar Takes Command of Spear Corps
Lieutenant General Abhijit S Pendharkar, AVSM, YSM, has taken over as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Spear Corps. He succeeds Lieutenant General Harjeet Singh Sahi, UYSM, AVSM, YSM, SM, who is now the Commandant of Army War College, Mhow.
Commissioned into the Assam Regiment in June 1990, Lt Gen Pendharkar is a distinguished alumnus of the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, and holds credentials from the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington. His professional education further includes the Higher Command Course at Army War College, Mhow, and studies at the National Defence College, New Delhi.
Lt Gen Pendharkar’s military career spans over 34 years, marked by diverse command and staff roles across various terrains and operational environments in India and abroad. He has commanded an Infantry Battalion, Brigade, and Divisional-level formations along the Line of Control and in counter-insurgency operations in Jammu and Kashmir. His strategic expertise includes significant staff appointments, such as serving at the Military Operations Directorate at the Ministry of Defence.
Before his current appointment as GOC 3 Corps on 10 August 2024, he served as the Director General of the Territorial Army. His exemplary service has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), Yudh Seva Medal (YSM), Chief of the Army Staff Commendation, and GOC-in-C Central Command Commendation.
Lt Gen Pendharkar’s career reflects a robust blend of leadership, strategic planning, and operational acumen. His new role as GOC of the Spear Corps positions him at the forefront of critical military operations, reinforcing India’s defense capabilities.
