Outrage in Tripura: Fiery Protests Erupt Over Heinous Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh
In response to recent violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, Tripura has erupted in protests, urging the Indian government to take decisive action. Demonstrators are demanding a boycott of Bangladeshi products, the cancellation of medical visas, and an immediate halt to power distribution to Bangladesh from Tripura.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has been at the forefront of these protests, condemning the escalating violence that has surged following the resignation of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. VHP spokesperson Sourav Kanti Das highlighted the dire situation faced by Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. “Our neighboring country is experiencing unprecedented violence and anarchy,” Das stated at a press conference. “Religious sites, homes, and businesses of Hindus and Sikhs are being vandalized, with properties destroyed across multiple districts.”
Das specifically mentioned attacks in Panchagarh, Jhenaidah, and Jashore, where homes and shops have suffered significant damage. He criticized the inadequate protection of religious sites and the rising persecution of minorities. “Hindus once made up 32% of Bangladesh’s population; now it is less than 8%, and they face continuous harassment,” he added.
Local protests in Agartala have echoed these concerns, emphasizing the urgent need for action. Demonstrators have called for a boycott of Bangladeshi products and the cancellation of medical visas as immediate measures. Additionally, there are demands for the suspension of power supply to Bangladesh. These calls have gained traction on social media, with growing insistence on further measures if the violence continues.
As tensions rise, the situation remains delicate, with Tripura’s demonstrators seeking swift and effective responses from the Indian government to address the plight of minorities in Bangladesh.
