Heartbreaking Discovery: Two Deer Found Tragically Shot Dead
In a grim incident at Sendurai Big Lake in Ariyalur district, the lifeless bodies of two deer with gunshot wounds were discovered on Wednesday. Eyewitnesses reported that two hunters, arriving at the lake around 9 p.m., fatally shot the deer at close range with what appeared to be country-made guns. The sound of the gunshots alerted nearby passers-by, who swiftly reported the incident to the authorities.
Responding immediately, the Sendurai police, accompanied by personnel from the Forest Department, rushed to the scene. However, the hunters managed to escape on a motorcycle before they could be apprehended. The deer carcasses were subsequently transported to the Kumulur Reserve Forest for further examination.
T. Elangovan, District Forest Officer, revealed to The Hindu that the initial investigation points towards the use of crude, locally manufactured firearms. In efforts to bring the hunters to justice, special teams have been formed by both the Forest Department and the Ariyalur police. These teams are actively working to identify and capture those responsible for the illegal shooting.
This distressing event has raised concerns about wildlife safety and the use of illegal firearms in the region, prompting heightened vigilance and a collaborative effort between law enforcement and environmental authorities to prevent such occurrences in the future.
This incident highlights the urgent need for reinforced measures to protect wildlife and ensure that perpetrators of such heinous acts are swiftly held accountable.
