Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media to caution residents amidst the severe weather. “Guwahati is experiencing another round of heavy rain. We request everyone to stay indoors and avoid using vehicles unless absolutely necessary. Additionally, please steer clear of vehicular movement towards the downtown hospital areas on GS Road,” he posted.
Earlier, Sarma accentuated the need for inter-state coordination with neighboring Meghalaya to mitigate the recurring issue of urban flash flooding in Guwahati. The city, still recovering from the torrential rains on August 5 that caused widespread chaos and severe waterlogging, now faces another deluge, further complicating recovery efforts.
Residents are urged to remain vigilant and adhere to safety advisories. The consistent rain not only highlights the pressing need for better urban infrastructure but also the importance of coherent coordination in disaster management.
