Uddhav Thackeray Challenges PM Modi: Urgent Plea to End Atrocities Against Hindus in Bangladesh

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief and former Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday challenged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to protect minority Hindus in Bangladesh, who are reportedly facing atrocities following the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid student protests. Thackeray made these comments while in Delhi to meet INDIA bloc leaders regarding the upcoming assembly elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, and Jharkhand.

Thackeray questioned if Modi could intervene to stop the war in Ukraine, why he couldn’t take similar measures in Bangladesh to safeguard the Hindus. He juxtaposed this with BJP’s Lok Sabha campaign slogan, referring to Modi as “Papa,” and urged him to act against the violence in Bangladesh. Thackeray stressed that it is the Modi government’s duty to protect Bangladeshi Hindus from violent protestors in the strife-torn nation.

Expressing concerns over potential political instability akin to Bangladesh’s situation, Thackeray emphasized the need for the Indian government to engage constructively with all parties involved to avoid such turmoil. “If you wish to prevent a similar scenario in India, timely and inclusive decisions must be made,” he stated.

Thackeray underscored the authority of the populace, referencing the civil unrest in Bangladesh as a demonstration of people power and warning against politicians who test public patience. He noted that protesters in Bangladesh were derogatorily labeled “razakars,” similar to how Indian farmers protesting in the national capital were branded as terrorists. “This situation in Bangladesh serves as a warning. No one is above god; we are all humans,” he articulated.

Sheikh Hasina resigned as Bangladesh’s Prime Minister on Tuesday and fled to India on a military aircraft, landing at Ghaziabad’s Hindon airport. She is currently in a safe house in India and is considering relocating to Europe.

This situation has stirred significant political discourse, with Thackeray’s remarks amplifying calls for international humanitarian intervention and domestic political prudence.
