Kumar Sanu Reflects on His Journey and Current Status in the Music Industry

Kumar Sanu, a beloved voice of the ’90s, known for timeless hits like "Chura Ke Dil Mera," "Do Dil Mil Rahe Hain," and "Chori Chori Jab Nazrein Mili," recently shared his thoughts on the respect he receives but the lack of opportunities in today’s music industry. Despite his immense popularity during his peak years, Sanu’s presence in contemporary Hindi cinema has dwindled.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Sanu, who last performed "Dard Karara" for the 2015 film Dum Laga Ke Haisha and contributed to the 2018 remake of "Aankh Maarey" in Simmba, expressed his perplexity. "My journey has been great, and everyone in the industry respects me. But despite this respect and love, I don’t know why they aren’t using my voice for more songs in Hindi films," he wondered.

He questioned, "If I can still sing, why don’t they make me sing? It’s always in my mind. They show me so much love in person, is it genuine? Nonetheless, the respect is definitely there."

Sanu mentioned his continued success with live shows, stating, "Wherever I go, shows are sold out. There is public demand, and I have more live shows planned for October and November. If the industry understands this, it’s great; if not, it’s their loss."

In an earlier interview with Indian Express, Sanu elaborated on the cyclical nature of fame, saying, "Everyone experiences success, downfalls, and comebacks. I don’t feel I’ve had a drastic fall. Even now, I hear my songs everywhere. Industries change every decade, and one must adapt to stay relevant."

Emphasizing his positive outlook, Sanu added, "Having sung so many songs and achieved so much, I can’t complain. I live life with a smile and immense positivity."

Reflecting on the current music scene, Sanu noted that while there’s a shift towards adaptations over originals, the few new compositions being made are remarkable, albeit limited in number.
