YouTube has introduced several new ad formats designed to boost engagement and brand results for its Connected TV (cTV) and Shorts platforms. Neal Mohan, YouTube’s CEO, highlighted the success of YouTube Shorts, which launched globally in India in 2020 and has now reached a trillion views. Speaking at the YouTube Brandcast 2024 event, he emphasized YouTube’s role in empowering storytellers, with Indian creators significantly influencing global culture.

Mohan also remarked on YouTube’s achievement as the most streamed service on cTV in India, with viewership growing fourfold over the past three years. He credited Indian creators for redefining entertainment, news, and education through their professional and business-oriented approach to content creation.

To enhance brand engagement, YouTube has rolled out interactive stickers, gestures, and animated image ads for Shorts. For cTV, new formats like Pause Ads and Branded QR codes were introduced. Pause Ads allow viewer engagement during content pauses, while Branded QR codes expand reach beyond YouTube to premium broadcasters on OTT platforms via DV360.

A company statement noted that these innovations would enable brands to leverage the cultural influence and interactive capabilities of Shorts and cTV. Shekar Khosla, Vice President of Marketing at Google India, underscored YouTube’s commitment to leading the shift in TV viewing experiences in India by connecting marketers with audiences seamlessly across different screens and formats.
