Government Cracks Down on 18 OTT Platforms: Strong Action Revealed by MoS for I&B Dr. L. Murugan
Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Dr. L. Murugan, announced today that the government has taken action against 18 OTT platforms. In his response to supplementary questions in Rajya Sabha regarding digital piracy on OTT platforms, Dr. Murugan stated that guidelines are in place to monitor OTT content. However, he pointed out that the government does not control the verification of age-appropriate content on these platforms.
Dr. Murugan elaborated that self-certification mechanisms have been established for content classification, accompanied by parental guidance. This approach aims to empower viewers and guardians to make informed choices regarding the content they consume. He emphasized that such measures are critical in the broader effort to regulate and monitor the rapidly evolving digital entertainment landscape.
The Minister’s statements underscore the ongoing governmental efforts to address the challenges posed by digital piracy and ensure a safer viewing environment for all demographics.
