Congress Criticizes PM Modi Over New Parliament Building’s Leakage Incident

A recent water leakage incident in the newly constructed Parliament building amid heavy rains on July 31 has sparked criticism from the Congress party targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Footage circulating on social media captured water dripping through the ceiling of the lobby, with a bucket placed beneath to collect the leak, triggering a wave of rebukes from the Opposition regarding the hefty expenditure on the new structure.

Adding fuel to the controversy, the Congress released an animated video featuring PM Modi accompanied by a satirical voiceover suggesting that the Prime Minister should have inspected the site using a drone to ensure everything was in order. The video mocked the notion that it wasn’t Modi’s fault, pinning the blame on “Godi Media.”

Addressing the viral footage, the Lok Sabha Secretariat issued a clarifying statement on August 1. The Secretariat explained that the adhesive used to secure the glass domes in the lobby had been displaced by heavy rainfall, resulting in the leakage. They emphasized the environmental-friendly “Green Parliament” initiative, which incorporates glass domes for natural lighting in several parts of the building, including the lobby. The issue was promptly identified and resolved, according to the Secretariat, ensuring no further occurrences of leakage.

“The problem was, however, detected timely and corrective measures were taken immediately. Thereafter, no further leakage of water has been noticed. Similarly, accumulated water opposite Makar Dwar also got drained out quickly,” the statement concluded.

This incident has ignited debate, with the Congress seizing the opportunity to question the efficacy and quality of the new Parliament building amid significant public investment.
