Exciting News! Meghalaya Government Announces FREE Bus Service for Thrilling Durand Cup 2024 Opening Ceremony
The Meghalaya government has introduced a complimentary bus service for spectators attending the Durand Cup 2024 opening ceremony at the JN Stadium Complex in Polo on August 2. A fleet of eighteen public buses will crisscross various local areas, operating on a first-come, first-served basis.
To board these buses, passengers must present valid match-day tickets, with each ticket granting entry to only one individual. This rule applies to children as well, meaning they will also need their own tickets. Return trips will be available after the match from designated parking spots.
In an effort to alleviate traffic congestion, authorities have urged attendees to consider carpooling, using public transport, or walking. Parking remains limited at the SRGT parking lot, though supplementary spaces are offered in several locations, including FCI to Lumjingshai, MeECL, Golflinks, and areas adjacent to the State Convention Centre.
The bus routes will cover 16 different paths, ensuring connectivity from areas such as Lad Smit, Madanrting, Nongthymmai, Laban, Upper Shillong, Mawiong, Mawlai, Mawpat, NEIGRIHMS, Nongrah, and Rynjah to the stadium area.
To facilitate timely arrival for the 11:30 am match, buses will start departing at 11 am. The stadium gates will open to the public at 12:30 pm.
This initiative aims to enhance the spectator experience while also managing traffic flow effectively. Fans are encouraged to plan their journey accordingly to make the most of the provided services and enjoy the historic event seamlessly.
The move reflects the government’s commitment to supporting large-scale public events with well-organized and accessible transportation options, ultimately enriching the community’s engagement with the beloved Durand Cup.
