Jennifer Garner’s first San Diego Comic-Con was memorable for all the wrong reasons when she became trapped in her hotel’s elevator for over an hour. Documenting her 72-minute ordeal on Instagram, the “Elektra” star shared the claustrophobic experience in a seven-part series over the weekend.
Moments after being stuck in the elevator at San Diego’s Hard Rock Hotel, Garner humorously pleaded for superhero assistance: "I could use a Wolverine. I could use a Deadpool. I could use someone." Among the crowded elevator with people and luggage, she recalled a tip from TV shows like “The Office” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine,” suggesting that people sit to stay calm.
Garner’s presence in San Diego coincided with the excitement surrounding the blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine.” Garner previously portrayed Elektra in "Daredevil" (2003) and "Elektra" (2005), characters now under Marvel’s Disney umbrella.
To pass the time, Garner got creative. Leading a rendition of “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall” and later singing Madonna’s “Like A Prayer,” she kept spirits up until rescue arrived. After 72 minutes and a 911 call, firefighters managed to free the trapped occupants.
The incident, however, did not overshadow the Comic-Con festivities entirely. Several actors from the meta film "Deadpool & Wolverine" made surprise appearances, thrilling Marvel fans during a special screening.
Garner’s calm demeanor drew admiration from celebrities. Gwyneth Paltrow, known as Pepper Potts in the “Iron Man” series, applauded her composure: “Okay, no way oh my god how are you so calm.” Tracee Ellis Ross and comedian Fortune Feimster also praised Garner, with Feimster adding a humorous note about the firefighters.
The star’s unexpected elevator mishap turned into a memorable event that added an unexpected twist to her Comic-Con debut.
