Shocking Gas Cylinder Blast Leaves Dibrugarh Husband-Wife Duo Severely Injured
Gas Cylinder Blast Injures Husband-Wife Duo in Dibrugarh
Dibrugarh: A devastating gas cylinder blast severely injured a husband and wife while they were cleaning their burner at Kankan Nagar on Monday afternoon.
The victims, identified as Mihir Sarkar and Bela Sarkar, were staying in a rented house owned by Bhupen Dutta. According to sources, the couple had just finished cooking and was cleaning the gas burner when suddenly the gas pipe caught fire, leading to an explosion of the cylinder. The blast completely gutted the house.
Local residents reported that both Mihir and Bela sustained serious burn injuries. Bela suffered severe burns on both legs, while Mihir’s leg was burned as he tried to rescue his wife. Both were immediately admitted to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) for treatment.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) promptly arrived at the scene and managed to douse the fire within minutes. The extent of the damage has left the couple’s mother distraught, as she expressed how this tragic incident has rendered them homeless. "We are middle-class people, and it is very difficult for us to find another house," she stated.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety measures required while handling gas cylinders and the importance of taking prompt action in case of emergencies.
