Satwik-Chirag Triumph as German Duo Withdraws: Unforeseen Victory!
Indian Men’s Doubles Badminton Match Canceled Due to Opponent’s Injury at Paris Olympics
Paris, July 29: The highly anticipated men’s doubles match of Indian badminton stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty against Germany’s Mark Lamsfuss and Marvin Seidel has been called off. Scheduled for 12:00 pm (IST) at the La Chapelle Arena Court 3, the clash was annulled after Mark Lamsfuss withdrew owing to a knee injury.
The Badminton World Federation (BWF) confirmed Lamsfuss’ withdrawal, rendering all remaining Group C matches involving the German duo void. This includes their fixtures against the Indian pair and the French team of Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar.
"German men’s doubles player Mark Lamsfuss has withdrawn from the Olympic Games Paris 2024 badminton competition due to a knee injury," the BWF statement read. "Matches on these courts in each respective session have been rescheduled. As per BWF General Competition Regulations for group stage play, the results of all matches played, or yet to be played, involving Group C are now considered deleted."
Prior to this development, Rankireddy and Shetty had a commendable start to their Olympic campaign, securing a straight-sets victory against Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar. With this unexpected turn, the Indian duo will now await updates on their subsequent matches as the tournament progresses.
Stay tuned for further developments as the Paris Olympics continue to unfold.
