New Delhi: Prime Minister Modi Celebrates Charaideo Maidam’s UNESCO Listing in 112th ‘Mann Ki Baat’
In his 112th ‘Mann Ki Baat’ address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed pride over Charaideo Maidam in Assam being recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, encouraging citizens to plan visits to the historic location. Esteemed as the 43rd site in India and the first in the northeast, Charaideo Moidam, described by PM Modi as a "shining city on the hills," is significant for housing the ancient Ahom dynasty’s ancestors and valuables.
Highlighting its historical relevance, Modi noted the Ahom Empire’s enduring rule from the 13th to the 19th century and mentioned his own experience unveiling a statue of Ahom warrior Lachit Borphukan. The Prime Minister emphasized that Charaideo’s new status as a World Heritage site will likely boost tourism.
Turning to tiger conservation, Modi praised India’s initiatives, noting that the nation harbors 70 percent of the global tiger population. He cited efforts in Maharashtra’s Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve and Andhra Pradesh’s Nallamalai hills, applauding local communities for their ecological roles.
In line with environmental efforts, he lauded Indore’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, urging citizens to plant trees in their mothers’ names. Modi also commended the handloom sector’s growth, celebrating startups like Kosha AI for their innovative promotion methods. Modi underscored youth involvement through Project PARI, aimed at public art revival, as witnessed in Delhi’s new underpasses and flyovers. Lastly, he called for nationwide participation in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan’ leading up to Independence Day, inviting suggestions for his address.
