Celebrating a New Era: Lakshman Prasad Acharya to be Triumphantly Sworn in as Assam Governor Tomorrow – Northeast News

GUWAHATI: Lakshman Prasad Acharya is set to be sworn in as the new Governor of Assam on Tuesday. The oath of office will be administered by Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, at 12:10 pm at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

On Sunday, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Acharya as the Governor of Assam. Additionally, he has been given the additional charge of Governor of Manipur. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed his approval of Acharya’s appointment, citing his extensive organizational and legislative experience as beneficial for the state.

“I am confident he will be an outstanding Governor for our state. My best wishes on his new assignment,” stated Chief Minister Sarma. He also expressed gratitude to the outgoing Governor, Gulab Chand Kataria, for his contributions, highlighting the positive impact of his counsel and guidance during his tenure.

Acharya previously served as the 17th Governor of Sikkim from 2023 to 2024. Affiliated with the BJP, he was a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council from 2015 to 2023, elected by the members of the Legislative Assembly. He also held significant roles within the BJP, including serving as the vice president of the Uttar Pradesh state unit and president of Uttar Pradesh Kashi Kshetra BJP.

In 2019, Acharya was appointed as BJP’s election convener for the Varanasi parliamentary seat, which was contested by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the general elections.
