Record-Breaking Pilgrimage: Over 4.51 Lakh Devotees Participate in Amarnath Yatra 2023

Jammu, July 28: The ongoing Amarnath Yatra has witnessed an unprecedented turnout, with over 4.51 lakh pilgrims having participated in just 29 days, surpassing last year’s record. According to officials from the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), which oversees the annual pilgrimage, this year’s Yatra began on June 29 and has already seen a significant rise from the 4.45 lakh pilgrims who completed the journey over the same period last year.

On Saturday alone, around 8,000 devotees offered prayers at the sacred cave shrine. On Sunday, another group of 1,677 pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu, marking the smallest batch to leave for the Valley since the pilgrimage commenced. Of these, 408 pilgrims set off at 3:35 a.m. in a convoy of 24 vehicles for the Baltal base camp in north Kashmir, while another 1,269 devotees traveled in a convoy of 43 vehicles to the Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp in south Kashmir.

The seamless progression of this year’s Yatra is attributed to the exceptional security measures implemented by the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and the J&K Police, ensuring a peaceful and orderly pilgrimage.

The 52-day-long pilgrimage will culminate on August 29, coinciding with the Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan festivals. The remarkable participation and smooth execution highlight the meticulous planning and dedicated efforts of the authorities to accommodate the growing number of devotees each year.
