Tragic Loss: Remembering the 3 Promising Students Killed in Heartbreaking Delhi IAS Coaching Centre Flooding
Three Civil Service aspirants tragically lost their lives after the basement of Rau’s IAS coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar, central Delhi, flooded due to heavy rain on Saturday evening. The victims were identified as Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana, and Nevin Dalvin from Kerala. Rescuers recovered their bodies from the submerged basement, leading to widespread outrage and protests from fellow aspirants and students demanding accountability from the coaching centre.
Shreya Yadav, a 25-year-old with a B.Sc. degree in Agriculture, had moved from Ambedkar Nagar to Delhi in April 2024 to pursue her IAS dreams. Her father, Rajendra Yadav, accused the institute of negligence, revealing that Shreya had previously complained about flooding issues which went unaddressed. The family was not officially informed by the institute about the incident and learned about it through media reports.
Tanya Soni, also 25, hailed from Secunderabad in Telangana but originally belonged to Aurangabad, Bihar. She was a Delhi University student staying at a women’s hostel and had joined the coaching institute six weeks ago. Her father, Vijay Kumar, was heartbroken and took her body back to Aurangabad for the last rites.
Nevin Dalvin, a 28-year-old PhD student from Jawaharlal Nehru University, had been residing in Delhi for around eight months. Originally from Ernakulam, Kerala, Nevin visited the basement library on the unfortunate morning around 10 am. His family, residing in Ernakulam for over a decade, was devastated by the incident.
The tragic event has triggered significant anger and demands for justice among the student community, who gathered outside the coaching centre, raising slogans against the authorities. The victims’ families also accused the institution of negligence and of barring them from seeing their loved ones at the hospital.
