Powerful Meitei Protest Erupts at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, Urging Immediate Centre Action on Manipur Crisis
The Delhi Meetei Coordinating Committee (DMCC) held a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on July 28, urging immediate governmental intervention regarding the ongoing Manipur crisis. Concurrently, a joint protest by the Khwairamband Ima Keithal Joint Coordinating Committee, Image Meira, and the Women’s Wing of the DMCC took place at Hao Ground in Chinga Mathak, Imphal East, along with another demonstration occurring in Bangalore.
These protests represented a unified call for justice and central government intervention to address the conflict in Manipur. Protesters in Delhi expressed deep disappointment over what they perceive as the Prime Minister’s office and the Central Government’s negligence and indecision. They demanded accountability, transparency, and swift action, emphasizing that the time for inaction has long passed.
The demonstrators accused the central government of showing favoritism towards Kuki militants and demanded impartial justice for all affected communities to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur. They highlighted the suffering of internally displaced people, pointing out that the delay in resettling them to their original homes has only exacerbated their plight. The protesters called for the expedited resettlement of displaced individuals to restore their lives and dignity.
The collective message from the protests was a strong plea to the Indian Government to stop its alleged partiality towards Kuki militants and focus on ensuring peace and the harmonious coexistence of all communities in Manipur. The demonstrations aimed to bring attention to the urgency of the situation and the need for effective governmental response to restore stability in the region.
