PM Modi’s Triumph: Elation as Assam’s Charaideo Maidam Secures Prestigious UNESCO World Heritage Status
Prime Minister Modi Celebrates Charaideo Maidam’s Inclusion as UNESCO World Heritage Site
In his latest Mann Ki Baat address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed immense pride over Assam’s Charaideo Maidam’s inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites list. This significant achievement marks India’s 43rd entry and the first Cultural World Heritage site from the Northeast region.
Charaideo served as the inaugural capital of the Ahom dynasty, which holds substantial historical Importance. The Maidam, or burial mounds, within Charaideo were used to house the remains of Ahom ancestors along with their valuable possessions. Modi highlighted that these structures stand as profound symbols of reverence for the departed Ahom rulers and dignitaries.
The Prime Minister reflected on the remarkable longevity of the Ahom Empire, which spanned from the 13th to the early 19th century. He emphasized that the endurance of the empire was largely due to its robust principles and beliefs.
Modi also recalled his recent unveiling of the tallest statue of Ahom warrior Lachit Borphukan on March 9. He expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to pay his respects at Lachit Maidam, and he urged citizens to consider visiting Charaideo Maidam as part of their future travel plans.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to express his appreciation for the Prime Minister’s commitment to preserving Assam’s cultural heritage. He tweeted, "It was special to hear Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji speak on his efforts to preserve Assam’s rich civilisational heritage. We are blessed to witness this celebration of our ancient culture."
This recognition of Charaideo Maidam not only underscores its historical and cultural significance but also highlights the enduring legacy of the Ahom dynasty. The Prime Minister’s endorsement serves as a call to action for citizens to explore and appreciate this newly acknowledged heritage site.
