Furious Nitish Kumar Boycotts NITI Aayog Meeting Over Denial of Special Category Status to Bihar: CPI(ML) Liberation Leader Speaks Out
Bihar News Summary
The absence of Nitish Kumar, JD(U) president and Bihar Chief Minister, at the recent NITI Aayog meeting in Delhi has sparked controversy. The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation [CPI(ML)L], a member of the INDIA bloc, attributed Kumar’s absence to embarrassment over the Central government’s refusal to grant Bihar special category status. CPI(ML)L criticized the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for allegedly misleading the public regarding a special package for the state and announced upcoming protest marches.
Despite these claims, JD(U) leaders remained silent on the issue. On the same date as the NITI Aayog meeting, July 27, Kumar convened a party meeting in Patna to discuss preparations for Jharkhand’s Assembly elections. CPI(ML)L legislator Mehboob Alam argued that Kumar missed a key opportunity to advocate for Bihar’s special category status and the inclusion of the state’s amended reservation laws in the Constitution’s Ninth Schedule, which protects certain laws from judicial challenge.
Another CPI(ML)L MLA, Ajeet Kumar Singh, echoed this sentiment, suggesting that Kumar’s decision to skip the meeting demonstrated a lack of concern for Bihar’s welfare. This debate reignites questions about the state’s development and the political maneuvering around it.
