Vendors Optimistic for Surging Sales as Sky Umbrella Fest Enters Exciting Day 2
Shillong Sky Umbrella Festival Kicks Off with Cultural Extravaganza and Vendor Optimism
Shillong, July 25: The inaugural Shillong Sky Umbrella Festival, which began on July 24, promises a vibrant mix of culture and commerce until August 11. Orchestrated by Project Wild Wonders alongside the Nongthymmai Sports and Cultural Club, this festival is taking place at Madan Nongthymmai, Jiengkieng.
The event boasts a diverse array of vendors, featuring stalls selling accessories, clothing from across India including Hyderabad’s renowned pearl jewelry, and offerings of food and temporary tattoos. The eclectic mix aims to cater to a broad audience and create an engaging experience.
However, vendors experienced a slow start during the festival’s initial days. A bag seller voiced concerns over low sales, noting that even after 4 p.m., no transactions had occurred. A garment vendor emphasized the pivotal role of media coverage in bolstering publicity and attracting more visitors. "We are really relying on media coverage to advertise the fair more," the vendor mentioned.
Despite the initial hurdles, both vendors and organizers remain hopeful. There is a strong belief that local enthusiasm for cultural events will drive an increase in foot traffic in the coming days. Shillong’s residents are known for their fervor for such gatherings, encouraging optimism among participants.
Adding to the festival’s appeal, a slew of competitions is set to entertain attendees. Events like the Battle of the Bands, dance battles, and a DJ showdown are anticipated to attract large crowds, generating a lively and dynamic atmosphere. These competitions are expected to boost vendor sales and overall festival attendance.
As the Shillong Sky Umbrella Festival progresses, both participants and spectators hope it will anchor itself as a significant cultural event in Shillong’s yearly calendar, celebrating art, music, and a variety of crafts from across India. The festival not only aims to entertain but also to foster a sense of community and cultural appreciation in the region.
