Urgent Alert: KTR Condemns Congress for Betraying Farmers’ Rights in Ruthless Political Vendetta
BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao Criticizes Congress Over KLIP Mismanagement
Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao has strongly criticized the Congress government, accusing it of neglect and political vendetta in failing to initiate water pumping from the Kannepally pump houses of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP). Speaking after his visit to the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) in Karimnagar on Thursday, Rao highlighted the wastage of millions of cusecs of water at the Medigadda barrage while the government remains apathetic, thereby jeopardizing farmers’ interests.
Leading a delegation of BRS MLAs and MLCs, Rao conducted a field visit to the LMD and other components of the KLIP en route to Peddapalli district, with further inspections planned at the KLIP barrages on Friday. He emphasized that the KLIP, initiated by former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, has transformed Telangana into a significant grain producer due to its status as the world’s largest multi-stage lift irrigation project.
Despite its success, Rao accused the Congress government of exaggerating a minor incident at Medigadda to unjustly brand the KLIP as a failed project. He pointed out that the Congress has missed ample opportunities to pump water from Medigadda, causing significant reservoirs like LMD to remain underfilled compared to last year when it held 12 tmcft of water.
Rao stressed that activating the pumps at Kannepally could fill numerous reservoirs, including 50 tmcft in Mallannasagar and 15 tmcft in Kondapochamma Sagar, which would alleviate drinking water issues in Hyderabad. The BRS delegation aims to highlight the drying reservoirs’ condition and the consequent farmer distress due to the Congress government’s deliberate delays, intending to raise these issues in the ongoing Legislative Assembly session.
