Street Vendors Chaos: Dividers Absent, 4,000 Ganeshguri Students Suffer in Distress | Heartbreaking Guwahati News
In Guwahati, the pavements near Gopal Boro Government Higher Secondary School and Dispur College in the Ganeshguri area are overrun by street vendors and chaotic parking, creating unsafe conditions for approximately 4,000 students who walk to these institutions. The lack of dividers on Dr. RP Road exacerbates the problem, forcing students to risk walking on the road. Multiple accidents involving students have been reported, despite the Dispur police station being nearby. The principal of Gopal Boro School highlighted that a student was hit by a two-wheeler recently, and although the police temporarily cleared the vendors, the issue persists. Damaged vehicles parked by the police add to the congestion.
Dispur College’s principal, Navajyoti Borah, emphasized that the situation is worsened by potholes, craters, open urination, and garbage dumping, affecting over 3,000 students daily. Unruly motorists making unauthorized U-turns and chaotic parking contribute to severe traffic congestion, endangering commuters’ lives.
In related news, the tragic death of Andhra Pradesh student Jetti Harika in a road accident in Oklahoma, and the reopening of Panaji roads amid ongoing public inconvenience, were noted. Additionally, Mangaluru City Corporation’s “Operation Tiger” to remove unauthorized street vendors highlighted the support needed from police to manage these urban challenges effectively.
